In this article you will learn: how to select the right plan for you.
Not sure which plan is right for you or what the difference is between speed and data? We can help.
Bolt’s plans offer different upload and download speeds, measured in megabits per second (Mbps). Download speed affects how quickly you receive information, such as when streaming or downloading a file. Upload speed affects how quickly you send information, such as during a video call, cloud backup or file upload.
Data is different: it is the total amount of information you use over time. All Bolt plans include unlimited monthly data, with no data overage fees.

You may benefit from more speed if your household regularly:
- Streams on several devices at the same time
- Streams multiple videos in 4K
- Makes simultaneous video calls
- Downloads or uploads very large files
- Backs up large amounts of data to the cloud
- Has several people using high-bandwidth applications at once
You may be comfortable with a lower speed if you primarily:
- Browse websites and check email
- Stream on only one or two devices at a time
- Have relatively few people using the internet simultaneously
Online gaming itself generally does not require a great deal of bandwidth, although faster plans can reduce the time required to download games and updates. Connection stability and latency are especially important during gameplay.
If your internet feels slow, additional speed may help when several people are using the connection heavily at the same time. However, slow performance can also be caused by Wi-Fi coverage, router placement, device problems or a service disruption.
