How to run an internet speed test

A speed test measures how quickly data travels between your device and the internet. You can use Fast.com, Speedtest by Ookla or Cloudflare’s speed test.

Steps

   Pause downloads, streaming and other high-usage activities.

   Disconnect from any VPN you may be using.

   For the most accurate result, connect a computer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable. If using Wi-Fi, stay close to your router.

   Open one of the speed-test websites listed above.

   Start the test and wait for it to finish.

   Review your download speed, upload speed and latency or ping.

   Run the test two or three times and compare the results.
